I make paintings that hover at the edge of recognition. They do not resolve immediately. Instead, they hold a state of emergence, where form gathers slowly and remains unsettled. I am interested in the perceptual shift that can occur through sustained looking, when something begins to cohere without becoming fixed. A small line or shift in tone prevents the surface from stabilising too completely. I stop when the painting feels momentarily sufficient, sustaining that tension without settling into resolution.
This page will always show new work. If you want to see my past work, please click on the gallery names in the top menu. This is a selection, and I’ll add other galleries of works, e.g. on paper, to keep the art here fresh. My technique involves tonal considerations, and extensive use of glazing.
